儒里奥·迪尼斯(Julio Dinis)于1839年11月14日生于葡萄牙北部的波尔图城。他原名若阿金·吉列尔梅·戈麦斯·科埃略（Joaquim Guilherme Gomes Coelho），迪尼斯是他的笔名。父亲是医师，母亲是英国人和爱尔兰人的后裔。17岁时，他进入波尔图外科 医学校学习，同时开始写作。就在同年，即1856年，他在当地报纸先后发表短篇小说《热蛋糕》和《阿米埃伊拉伯爵夫人的婚事》；1862年，又完成长篇小说《英国之家》及其他短篇小说。1865年，迪尼斯被授予波尔图外科医学校教授职务。1866年发表了长篇小说《两姊妹的爱情》可惜作者孱弱多病，于1871年9月在马德拉群岛病逝，年仅32岁。
